World Peace Flame Lumbini to Light Inauguration of Everest Marathon

World Peace Flame sent from Lumbini to Illuminate Inauguration of Everest Marathon

The world peace flame that will be ignited at the start of the ‘Everest Marathon’, which is held every year on Everest Day (May 29), has been sent from Lumbini, Buddha’s birthplace, to the Everest base camp.

The Himalaya Expedition, the Everest Marathon organizer, carried out a ceremony in Lumbini and handed over the ‘Jyoti of Shanti Deep’ to Baikuntha Manandhar, a South Asian marathon record holder. Monks from China, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Nepal offered prayers during the ceremony. The athletes then traveled to Kathmandu by road via Bhairahawa, the location of Buddha Astudhatu, and Ramgram (Parasi).

Under the guidance of Olympian Vaikunth Manandhar, athletes Surendra Maharjan and Arjun Ghimire, trail runner Baburaja Shrestha, boxer Deepak Tamang, and former marathon runner Radha Shrestha marched from Shanti Dweep with the peace torch.

The Peace Torch will be carried to Everest Base Camp following a circumambulation of Boudha and Swayambhu in Kathmandu. The crew carrying the peace torch is expected to arrive at Everest Base Camp on May 27. The Peace Torch will be carried over Everest Base Camp on May 29th.

The journey of the World Peace Flame from Lumbini to the Everest base camp is a powerful reminder of the universal principles of peace, togetherness, and compassion, which transcend borders and inspire mankind to create a more harmonious and inclusive world.
