Nepal Wins 8 Gold Medals in 8th South Asian Karate Championship
The South Asian karate championship, which was held on Thursday in Thumbu, Bhutan, saw Nepal win 8 gold medals.
On the opening day of the competition, Nepal’s gold medal winners were Swornim Manandhar in the men’s division and Alisa Raskoti Magar in the senior women’s division. Rehan Jawed in the men’s division and Sanju Deshar in the women’s under-21 division both took home gold medals.
In the final match with India and Alisa and Swornin, our players were successful in defeating India. Similarly, Rehan beat India, while Sanju won against Bhusal to take the gold medal. The Sri Lankan player won the final against Renisha Rimal, taking home the silver medal. The Indian player defeated Amrit Thokar in the junior men’s division.
The Nepal Karate Federation reported that both the senior women’s and men’s and junior women’s and men’s categories achieved gold medal victories for Nepal.
Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck of Bhutan officially opened the tournament Thursday, where more than 200 karatekas and 4,000 officials from Nepal, Bhutan, India, and Sri Lanka are competing.
During the two-day competition, the competitors will participate in several weight classifications in the cadet, junior, under-21, and senior divisions.
