Panauti Offers Free Heritage Passport to Enhance Tourism

Panauti, located 32 kilometers southeast of Kathmandu, Nepal, is a captivating town with a rich historical and cultural heritage. This ancient city is one of the oldest cities in Nepal. It is adorned with remarkable architecture, intricate stone carvings, and traditional Newari charm.

The Panauti Tourism Development Centre has started a free “Panauti Heritage Passport” for travelers. This was established on the day of World Tourism Day.  This passport provides travelers with information about significant religious and historical monuments, local festivals, and heritage routes in Panauti.

Chairperson Purushottam Karmacharya stated that the passport has QR codes, which provide simple access to information regarding Panauti’s cultural significance. It also emphasizes efforts to create local jobs, such as heritage area preservation, free visitor transportation, and Sukul (straw mat) producing training for locals.

Panauti was proposed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site 25 years ago, emphasizing its cultural importance.
