The picturesque areas of Mustang and Manang in Nepal are experiencing a significant increase in tourist arrivals. It is attracting both domestic and foreign tourists to its breathtaking landscapes and cultural legacy. Major places such as Muktinath Temple, Kagbeni, and Jomsom have recently become thriving sites for activity. It demonstrates the region’s attraction. According to Pramod Regmi, Chief of the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACAP) Jomsom Office, there has been a huge rise in tourism, with 20,446 tourists registered in Mustang alone in the last 15-16 days.
This increase in tourists is due to improved road access, excellent tourism promotion, and social media influence. Recently, 4,044 cars transported 14,850 local tourists and 5,596 overseas visitors to Mustang. Last fiscal year, Mustang had 318,814 domestic tourists and 121,352 international tourists, indicating a considerable interest in the area.
Manang is also witnessing increasing tourist activity, with 286 tourists visiting in a single day. During the month of Asoj, which is ideal for hiking, local tourist officials hope to see an increase in visitors. During the month of Bhadau (August 17-September 16), 2,765 visitors from 74 nations visited Manang, with many from Israel and China.
Local businesses are delighted with the increase in guests. Good weather is a crucial factor in tourism growth. Usha Lama, a tourism operator in Chame rural municipality, expressed her pleasure about the increasing number of tourists, particularly those visiting renowned places such as Tilicho Lake. However, the ACAP has advised people to plan their trips carefully because weather conditions in the Himalayas may be unexpected.
