The Annapurna I Base Camp in Narchang, Annapurna Rural Municipality-4, has seen a significant increase in domestic tourists. Tej Bahadur Gurung, an important figure in marketing the Maurice Herzog hiking route, said that around 800 trekkers visited the region in only five days following the Bada Dashain Tika festival.
The base camp, accessible by a two-day hike from Humkhola, has become a popular tourist attraction. Sushant Poudel, a recent visitor, found that the trails were packed with hikers enjoying the holiday vacation.
Previously a lesser-known location has become popular due to improved infrastructure and natural features such as Panchkunda Lake, Futphute Lake, caves, and waterfalls. Tourist numbers have increased sixfold this year, with businesses reporting more visitors from India, China, Taiwan, and Italy.
However, some tourists worry about the area’s lacking rubbish management.
