Nepal has finally completed the Chilime-Trishuli 220 kV transmission line. It is an important infrastructure project designed to increase the country’s energy supply. This 28-kilometer line connects the Chilime Hub in Rasuwa to the Trishuli III B Hub in Nuwakot. It is essential for transferring power from hydropower facilities along the Trishuli River to Nepal’s national network.

Kul Man Ghising, Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), praised the workers and contractors who worked tirelessly to complete the project. They finished it despite the Dashain and Tihar vacations. The new line is now ready to transport power from the 111 MW Rasuwagadhi and 42.5 MW Sanjen hydropower plants and other future developments in the region.
The $3.62 billion project was supported by NEA funds, a donation from the German Development Bank (KfW), and a low-interest loan from the European Investment Bank. In 2017, there was a deal reached with a Chinese business to manage both the transmission line and its related substations.
With the line fully operational, this accomplishment marks a significant step forward in Nepal’s energy future. It addresses the country’s rising need for clean and dependable electricity.
