Over 200 artists will perform Newar traditional dances with Dhime music, said Anil Maskey, central vice-president of Newa: Deya Dabuka, announced during a press conference on Wednesday. The event also includes cultural highlights such as the Lakhey dance and Thakthuke. These performances offer a vibrant showcase of Newar traditions.

Coordinator Amrit Acharya emphasized the festival’s purpose of passing down Newar customs, particularly the making and sharing of Yomari, a steamed rice flour delicacy filled with sweet molasses and sesame seeds. “This festival is not only a celebration but also a step toward preserving a legacy for future generations,” Acharya said.

The event, featuring artists from across Nepal, also aims to boost tourism in Dharan. “We are increasing our entire tourist product within Dharan,” said Sudhan Munikar, the president of the event.

Yomari Punhi, falling on December 15 this year, marks the full moon of the Hemanta season and is a key day for Newar families, who prepare Yomari as offerings and festive treats.
