Starting today, employees at Tribhuvan International Airport’s (TIA) Sinamangal Customs Office have initiated a strike due to their dissatisfaction with the lack of attention to their collective demands. These workers, initially presenting a list of five requests, including mass transfers, have decided to halt all cargo inspection and processing operations at the Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office.
If their demands remain unmet, they have stated their intention to cease all activities related to the freight branch by tomorrow. Last Sunday, they conducted a symbolic three-hour ‘pen down’ strike as a form of protest.
Furthermore, they have issued a warning that if their demands are not addressed by September 13, they will proceed with the next phase of their protest. The employees allege that some of their colleagues were arrested and subjected to intimidation while investigating a 61- kilogram gold smuggling case. A total of 137 employees have submitted a petition to the government, citing an unsatisfactory working environment and psychological discomfort at the customs office.
