Lobuche, Solukhumbu тАУ Nimsdai Foundation, a non-profit organization, has just declared its plans to build a new porterhouse at the beautiful village, Lobuche, Solukhumbu.
Porters are the unsung heroes of the region. The porters support the trekkers and climbers in their journey to high-altitude destinations. So, the Nimsdai Foundation plans to invest NPR 5,89 crore to build the new Porter House for the well-being of many porterтАЩs. The total budget for the project will be NPR 6,39,94,193.84.
Lobuche is situated at an altitude of 4,940m above sea level. The town has been a vital stop for travelers on the famous route of Everest.. Every year an estimated 23,200 porters traverse through Lobuche, catering to the needs of the 58,000 trekkers who visit the Khumbu Region.
The new Porter House will accommodate up to 100 porters at a time, offering shelter, comfort, and essential amenities. The facility aims to enhance the welfare of porters while promoting community development and cultural exchange in the region.
Moreover, the project underscores the commitment of Nimsdai Foundation to support local economies and leverage indigenous skills and expertise in construction. With 96.6% of the project cost covered by the foundation and 3.4% contributed by the local government, the initiative is poised to benefit a significant portion of the 4,640 porters who frequent the area.
The announcement of the new Porter House in Lobuche is a milestone in the efforts for the welfare of the Sherpas and the standards of living conditions among them in the Everest Region. As the project takes shape, the announcement is expected not only to provide a sanctuary for porters but also to encourage sustainable tourism practices and the rich cultural heritage of the Sherpa community.
