Nepal Army has completed the final phase of construction on the Karnali Corridor, aiming to connect the northern border with China. The construction of an 11-kilometer tough terrain track from Lalibagar to Dullikuna, starting from Humla, has been completed.
Chief of the road construction team of the Nepali Army, Amrit Parajuli, stated, “We aim to bring vehicles to Simikot, the district headquarters of Humla, which is the only district in Nepal not yet connected to the national road network.”
The track from Lalibagar to Dullikuna, under the Karnali Corridor, is crucial for connecting Nepal with China via land routes. The terrain in this area has been particularly challenging, making construction efforts demanding.
Currently, the Nepali Army has completed blasting work for rock excavation and leveled an 800-meter section of the road. Additionally, they have been assigned responsibilities by the Department of Roads to cut through the difficult terrain in places like Bokche Gauda, Bhi-Gaunda, Dulli Kuna, and Yangchuk, as well as to adjust the road level.
The Karnali Corridor aims to connect Kalikot’s Ghatakhola to Bajura’s Jumla Khola, covering a distance of 11.05 kilometers. The completion of this road section is expected to facilitate transportation in the region significantly.
The Karnali Corridor is part of a trilateral road connecting Nepal, India, and China. The distance from the Indian border at Jamunaha to the China border in Humla’s hills is 505 kilometers, passing through places like Surkhet, Kalikot, Bajura, Humla, and Simikot. This road is a crucial infrastructure project for Karnali Province, fostering economic growth and opening up opportunities for trade and pilgrimage to Mansarovar.
