The west Chitwan Meghauli Airport’s runway upgrade project has started.
The new runway will have dimensions of 20 meters by 700 meters. High-level gravel will replace the current grass field runway, according to Chandramani Sapkota, Chief of the Meghauli Airport project.
The estimated cost of the runway’s renovation is twelve million rupees. The strip has been used by the Nepali Army as a parachuting training ground. Similarly, hotels in Meghauli hire out planes and helicopters to transport their visitors.
Since 2067 BS, the airport has not been open for business as the government decided not to allow hotels to be operated inside of Chitwan National Park. 24 kilometers south of Bharatpur is the Meghauli airport, which covers 23 bigaha of land.
