The Uday Righa Buddha Vihar in Baglung’s Galkot Ward No. 11 is being renovated to attract tourists.

The Vihar, built around 12 years ago and completed in the past Baisakh, is now being organized to promote tourism this year. The Gandaki Province government allocated Rs. 1.5 million in the current fiscal year to renovate the Uday Righa Buddha Vihar and construct a waiting area and garden.

The attractive style of construction has made the Buddha Vihar a draw for both domestic and international tourists, contributing to its management. During the National Pride program, many tourists visit the vicinity near the Mid-Hill Highway, increasing footfall in the area. The Buddha Vihar, constructed at a cost of approximately Rs. 10 million with local labor contributions, is being further developed with additional budget allocation from the provincial government for enhanced attraction and organization.

The president of Galkot Ward No. 11, Dammar Shrestha, stated that approximately 15 ropanis of land were allocated for the Vihar’s construction, which faced challenges due to financial constraints. He expressed hope for more funding to complete the project with perfection.

“The lack of budget and various other reasons have delayed the construction of the Buddha Vihar for 12 years. However, with increased budget allocation now, we are making efforts to complete it flawlessly,” said President Shrestha. He highlighted the Vihar’s potential to attract more tourists from outside, with around 1500 tourists visiting monthly.

Baglung Municipality spokesperson Him Bahadur Bhandari mentioned that the municipality had allocated budget for the Uday Righa Buddha Vihar’s renovation. He emphasized prioritizing development in the area, considering the Vihar’s significance as a major tourism destination along with other religious tourism sites.
