A 5,555-kilogram bell has been set up in Panchakot.

A giant bell weighing 5,555-kg has been installed at Sarbasiddadham Panchakot in Baglung district to promote religious tourism here.

Last week, the bell known as “Muktinath Maha Ghanta” was brought to Panchakot, home to numerous other sacred buildings including Sish Mahal, Gandaki Mata’s Temple, Yagyashala (where Yagya is performed), and a massive statue of Lord Hanuman.

Building of religious buildings at Panchakot started in 2072 BS with funding from a number of sponsors, the local administration, and money shared from Mahayagya.

According to Muktinath Pithadhishwor Kamalanayanacharya, the bell was erected to enhance and advertise Panchakot, a hilly region 1,750 meters above sea level, as a religious tourism destination.

He revealed that the bell, which is composed of several metals including gold, silver, copper, brass, and iron, will be formally unveiled on February 21 in honor of a yagya, or religious ceremony, that day.

He said the bell took eight years to manufacture and cost about Rs 20 million. He declared that the bell’s voice will be audible to most of the villages in the Mustang district, including Baglung, Parbat, Myagdi, and others.

The bell will be positioned close to the 108-foot-tall Kalash, which is still under construction. About eight years ago, Sushil Koirala, the prime minister at the time, set the groundwork for the development of religious facilities at the location.

According to Damodar Shastri Dahal, Chairperson of the Sarbasiddidham Panchakot Development Council, more than Rs 500 million has been invested thus far in developing Panchakot as a religious tourism destination.

He claims that more infrastructure is being built for the purpose of attracting tourists and preserving religious traditions. Panchakot, which receives between 300 and 400 tourists each day, is anticipated to experience a spike in visitor arrivals as a result of the addition of Muktinath Maha Ghanta.
