Gorkha Municipality Secures Historic Quartz Crystal at Gorkha Durbar

Gorkha Durbar.

A Quartz Crystal.

The rare quartz crystal that was taken from a Satipipal, Gorakha Municipality-7 home in June of last year is to be kept inside the Gorakha Durbar precincts.

Chief District Officer Bhola Dahal said that this was agreed at an all-party meeting held on Saturday by the District Administration Office Gorakha. The District Police Office currently houses the priceless stone, which weighs 52.330 kg.

On June 29, 2023, the Gorakha Police took the quartz crystal from the home of Rammaya Shahi, a local, on suspicion that it was being trafficked. Quartz is a mineral stone with historical and archaeological value.

The district’s residents had also been requesting that this priceless crystal, which had been housed in the Police Office for a considerable amount of time, be managed within the district.

“The Ministry requested that the quartz crystal be managed in the district itself, and the all-party meeting opted to keep it at the Gorakha Durbar. Since the valuable object belongs to the Gorakhalis, the meeting unanimously decided to maintain it at Gorakha Durbar,” CDO Dahal stated. The method of protecting the quartz crystal that would be stored at the vacant area between Gorakha Durbar and the Gorakhkali Temple will be decided by the District Security Committee, he continued. It is reported that the full cost of maintaining the crystal will be handled by the Gorakha Municipality.
