Australian mountaineer Allie Pepper is in Nepal to achieve her dream of climbing all 14 of the world’s highest mountains without using extra oxygen within two years.
In the spring, she will ascend Makalu, Kanchenjunga, and Nanga Parbat in Pakistan, beginning with Mount Annapurna-I. She wants to climb Cho Oyu and Shishapangma in the fall before ascending Dhaulagiri, Lhotse, Everest, Gasherbrum-I, Gasherbrum-II, and Gasherbrum-I in 2025.
Pepper traveled to Langtang Valley for four days with her guide, Mingtemba Sherpa, before climbing Annapurna I. She found it a wonderful experience, preparing her for the big climb. During the trek, they explored beautiful villages and mountains, reaching heights of 5080 meters.
Pepper is determined and has climbed other high mountains without extra oxygen before, like Broad Peak and Mt. Manaslu. She’s also the first Australian woman to do so. Furthermore, she’s the first female Australian to achieve so. She began ascending 8,000-meter peaks in 2007 to encourage people—especially women—to overcome obstacles.
Pepper’s goal is rare, as only 6 people have achieved climbing all 14 peaks. She’s aiming to be the seventh.
