Based on the Nepali calendar, Taplejung will host the Taplejung Tourism Festival 2081 starting on the first day of Jestha. To promote tourism and local development, it will take place from Jestha 3 to Jestha 7 over five days.
The District Coordination Committee, which includes various government and non-governmental groups, is organizing the festival. Chiring Lama, the Committee Chair, explained that the aim is to enhance tourism and development in Taplejung, which is known for its tourism potential.
The festival is planned to be held at the premises of the Nepali Army’s Durga Battalion in Sadarmukam Phungling, Gulmi. Activities like exploring tourist sites, food festivals, promoting homestays, and organizing the Mayor’s Cup volleyball competition are part of the event.
There will also be open marathons, cultural performances, sack races, traditional dhaka fabric weaving, and leaf plate weaving competitions. Additionally, preparations are underway for an industrial and agricultural exhibition during the festival.
The festival’s main objective is to highlight and develop tourist spots like the world’s third-highest peak, Kanchenjunga, the beautiful Fungfung waterfall, Timbung Lake, Singema Lake, and others in the district.
