Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has launched a fresh initiative to tackle river pollution within the capital. The campaign begins today on June 23, 2024, with a dedicated team of 55 employees deployed by the KMC’s Department of Environment.
This campaign focuses on cleaning up rivers of Kathamndu; Rudramati (Dhobikhola), Khahare, Tukuche, and Bachhakushi. The team’s current efforts are concentrated on the Ichchumati (Tukucha) River, which snakes through the heart of Kathmandu. They’ve set a week to clean this river.
Superviser sagar luitel said the tukuche river has more garbages and wastes than other rivers in KMC. Kmc is also using advanced machinaries in collecting garbages from Rudramati river.
This campaign follows in the footsteps of previous initiatives, such as the Bagmati River cleanup campaign launched in May 2013. KMC acknowledges the importance of follow-up measures of cleaning rivers to ensure the success of this new campaign.
This initiative signifies the KMC’s unwavering commitment to addressing river pollution and creating a cleaner, healthier Kathmandu for its residents.
