16th July-Kathmandu, Nepal – During fiscal year 2080/081, the stunning region of Mustang welcomed an astonishing 427,271 tourists, which provided an important boost to the local tourism business. This entry, recorded at the police checkpoint at Ghasa on the boundary between Myagdi and Mustang districts, indicates a significant growth in the region’s popularity as a tourist destination.
According to the annual report from the Mustang District Police Office, this figure represents an 11.11 percent increase compared to the previous fiscal year 2079/080, when 379,767 tourists visited Mustang. This previous count included 303,800 domestic tourists and 75,967 foreign visitors from SAARC and other countries.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhojraj Pandey reported that in the most recent fiscal year, 318,814 of the tourists were domestic, while 108,448 were international visitors. Among the international tourists, 99,276 hailed from SAARC countries, and 9,171 came from other regions around the globe.
The surge in tourist numbers underscores Mustang’s growing appeal, with its stunning landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and unique Himalayan environment drawing visitors from near and far. Local businesses and stakeholders in the tourism sector are optimistic that this trend will continue, bringing further economic benefits and development opportunities to the area.
