Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman released the first budget of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term on Tuesday, covering the financial year 2024–2025.
Nepal has received a grant of INR 7 billion (NPR 11.20 billion) in the new budget, which is in line with the amount decided in February. This amount is in addition to the INR 5.50 billion that the Indian government originally gave to Nepal in the fiscal year 2023–2024, which was later revised to INR 6.50 billion. India provided Nepal with an amount of INR 4.34 billion for the fiscal year 2022-2023.
India’s budget, which is normally displayed in February, was completely presented on Tuesday, following the establishment of the new government.
India often includes funding for neighboring countries—Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, the Maldives, and Mongolia—in its budget and makes it known to the public. Nepal and Bhutan continue to be the leading recipients of these grants.
