Krishna Janmashtami, celebration of Love and Wisdom in Nepal

August 26, 2024

Hindus in Nepal are now celebrating Krishna Janmashtami, a major holiday honoring the birth of Lord Krishna, Vishnu’s eighth avatar. Joyful gatherings, religious music, and vibrant traditions all celebrate this auspicious event.

A Brief History of Krishna Janmashtami

Hindu mythology is deeply interconnected with the story of Krishna’s birth. Krishna was born into a family of Devaki and Vasudeva, and his existence was meant to end King Kansa’s oppressive rule, his maternal uncle. Krishna’s parents took him in secret to Gokul, where Yashoda and Nanda nurtured him,  to safeguard him.
