The Metropolitan Ring Road in Bharatpur is nearly completed. This huge infrastructure project, worth more than Rs 1.50 billion, is being financed equally by the federal and provincial governments. The 88.6-kilometer Ring Road connects various regions of the city, including sections along the Rapti and Narayani rivers, as well as the buffer zone and community forest.
Bharatpur Metropolitan City Mayor Renu Dahal stated that 90% of the construction work has been done. The Division Road Office, the Urban and Building Construction Project, and the Province Infrastructure Office worked together to complete the project. This was divided into numerous sections. A tender has been filed for the remaining work, which involves blacktopping the final 4.1 kilometers for an estimated Rs 100 million.
Mayor Dahal praised the project as an example of federalism and the country’s longest ring road. She stated that, due to environmental considerations, the road is smaller in the buffer zone and forested regions, but it is seven meters wide and fully covered throughout. The Ring Road links to important roads including the East-West Highway, Narayangadh-Muglin Road, Bypass Road, and Prachanda Marg Road.
Engineer Sakar Lama highlighted the Ring Road’s benefits, including improved communication between rural regions and Bharatpur, as well as a good influence on local tourism and economic activity. With the final phase nearing completion, the Ring Road is projected to dramatically promote tourism and raise local inhabitants’ living conditions.
