Transmission Line Boost for Middle Bhotekoshi Hydropower

Bhotekoshi, Nepal

Chilime Hydropower Company Limited has signed an agreement to speed up the building of the transmission line for the 102-megawatt Middle Bhotekoshi Hydropower Project in Sindhupalchowk. The goal was reached after a high-level meeting with key stakeholders, including Energy Minister Dipak Khadka and NEA Managing Director Kulman Ghising.

The project had been delayed by 14 months due to local obstacles along a two-kilometer part of the transmission line route in Bahundanda Municipality. The deal contains provisions for financial assistance to the local hospital, compensation for impacted landowners, and immediate work restart.

According to Minister Khadka, this agreement is important for addressing remaining problems and guaranteeing the Middle Bhotekoshi Project’s early integration into the national system. Purn Bahadur Tamang, Minister of State for Energy, highlighted that building will begin immediately, with frequent monitoring to ensure progress.

MP Mohan Bahadur Basnet noted the significant dangers that takes to progress the project and stated that the agreement will also meet the demands of the locals. Managing Director Ghising highlighted that the project’s progress will encourage local ownership and encouraged all stakeholders to complete the remaining work as soon as possible. He also stated that the building of the 220/132 kV substation has been finished and that interim measures have been made to ensure electricity flow.

This agreement sets the scene for energy production to commence in mid-October, with the generated power sent into the national network through the Bhotekoshi and Lamosanghu substations. This development marks a significant step forward in Nepal’s hydropower sector, promising enhanced energy security and local benefits.
