The Transport Management Office in Birgunj has reached a major achievement by collecting more than Rs 1.5 billion in revenue during fiscal year 2023/24. This is a significant gain of Rs 171.9 million over the previous fiscal year, FY 2022/23 when the office received Rs 1.35 billion. Kamal Raj Gautam, Chief of the Birgunj Transport Management Office, expressed his happiness with the remarkable revenue collection, highlighting that the figures demonstrate the office’s effectiveness and productivity in administering regional transportation services.
Most of the Rs 1.19 billion revenue comes from vehicle registrations, showing a significant need for transportation in Birgunj. An additional Rs 150 million was received from vehicle permits, adding to the revenue. “Our focus on simplifying vehicle registration processes and ensuring they obey regulations has played a key role in achieving these numbers,” Gautam said.
In fiscal year 2023/24, the office registered 38,456 new cars, showing the region’s expanding vehicle ownership. This comprises 2,229 heavy vehicles (buses, trucks, and machines) and 645 smaller vehicles (cars, jeeps, microbuses, and ambulances). Motorcycles and scooters accounted for 747 of the total registrations, demonstrating the diversity of cars on the road.
The significant growth in revenue and vehicle registrations highlights the Transport Management Office’s crucial role in facilitating transportation and supporting economic development in Birgunj. Chief Gautam emphasized that the office will continue to improve its services and infrastructure to meet the rising demands, ensuring smooth and efficient transport management in the future.
