Ilam’s Sukilumba Airport Resumes Flight After 3 Months

Sukilumba Airport, Ilam

Falgundanda Sukilumba Airport, Ilam will start operating from today. It had been closed for the past three months due to the arrival of the monsoon and severe weather. It will now reopen, according to Dinesh Sundas, station manager at Sukilumba Airport.

The last flight from Sukilumba took off on May 26, and no more flights were available. A planned flight from Kathmandu to Ilam on May 30 was forced to return to Kathmandu due to bad weather. Similarly, a flight scheduled for last Thursday was canceled because of the low number of passengers. Supervisor Sundas said that flying operations will resume only when weather conditions improve, with flights scheduled every Thursday.

Since January 15, 2023, Nepal Airlines has been operating the Kathmandu-Ilam-Kathmandu route twice weekly on Sundays and Thursdays. However, it has now been confirmed that flights will only run on Thursdays going ahead.

Located in Ilam Municipality-9, Falgundanda Sukilumba Airport serves as a critical link to Kathmandu and is a major center for passengers from the districts of Ilam, Panchthar, and even parts of India.
