Kathmandu Kalinga Literary Festival,Gateway to Asian Culture

After a long wait, the third edition of the Kathmandu Kalinga Literary Festival (KLF) will be held on the 7th and 8th of September 2024, at Hotel Himalaya in Lalitpur. This year’s festival, themed “Nepal—The Gateway to Asian Art, Culture, and Literature,” will be an enlightening experience—over 300 notable South Asian writers, including Nepal, India, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka.

The festival will have 60 sessions over two days. The subjects like “Wisdom and Insight,” “Echoes of a Bold Voice,” and “The Art of Storytelling in Film.”  will look into the region’s growing literary, artistic, and cultural dynamics.

Badri Prasad Pandey, Minister of Tourism and Culture, is going to start off the event. It will also feature renowned people such as writer Abhi Subedi, economist and author Sanjeev Sanyal, and novelist and diplomat Lakshmi Murdeshwar Puri. The second day’s primary guest will be Rob Fenn, the British Ambassador to Nepal.

Festival Director Ranjana Niraula expressed her delight, adding, “This year’s festival is not only a celebration of literature, but also a reflection of Nepal’s deep connection to South Asia.” “We want to highlight Nepal’s contribution to global cultural movements.”

This year’s event is organized by Yashaswi Pragya Pratisthan in partnership with the Kalinga Literary Festival, and it is sponsored by Surya Nepal Gatha and Life Insurance Corporation (Nepal) Limited. Rashmi Ranjan Parida, Founder and Director of KLF, emphasized that “The Kathmandu Kalinga Literary Festival will offer a once-in-a-lifetime experience for art lovers, featuring music, dance, poetry, and panel discussions that celebrate the rich literary and cultural traditions of Nepal and beyond.”

The event will additionally celebrate Nepal’s historical and spiritual contributions to South Asia. The sessions are dedicated to Sita Mata, Shiva, and Buddha, as well as their worldwide impact. “We are proud to continue this tradition, celebrating the cultural bonds that tie Nepal with South Asia and the world,” Niraula stated. The festival aims to be a dynamic venue for literature, art, and culture lovers, highlighting Nepal’s cultural heritage, as well as its worldwide relevance.
