Chilime-Trishuli 220 kV Line Almost Ready for Dashain

Chilime-Trishuli

The Chilime-Trishuli 220 kV transmission line is approaching its final phase. The Chilime-Trishuli project is set to be operational before the upcoming Dashain festival. The line was built to transfer energy from hydroelectric projects along the Trishuli River, to integrate power into Nepal’s national infrastructure.

According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the last 28-kilometer line from Chilime Hub Substation in Aamachhodingmo, Rasuwa, to Trishuli 3B Hub Substation in Kispang, Nuwakot, is nearly completed of Chilime-Trishuli project. Out of the 76 towers necessary for the line, 75 are complete, with construction on the last tower likely to be completed soon.

Managing Director Kul Man Ghising, along with senior NEA officials, examined the site and directed the project team to speed up the remaining work. This last step of Chilime-Trishuli project involves around 200 people. The additional staff was appointed to achieve the Dashain deadline. The transmission line will deliver electricity from the 111 MW Rasuwagadhi and 42.5 MW Sanjen hydropower plants.

The Chilime-Trishuli project has crossed difficult Himalayan terrain, building 33 towers in isolated locations, some of which required mules and helicopters to carry supplies. NEA stated that “they had to build more than 20 kilometers of access roads for the construction of the line”.

A multi-circuit connection will be built to link the power supply to the 216 MW Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower projects, led by Korean businesses. It is said that the upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Company will shoulder 60% of the cost of constructing the multi-circuit line.
