The Nepal Premier League (NPL) delivered another nail-biting match as the Biratnagar Kings, under the leadership of Sandeep Lamichhane, clinched their first victory, defeating Lumbini Lions by two wickets in a dramatic finish.

Chasing an imposing target of 192 runs, Biratnagar kings had fans on the edge of their seats until the very last over. With 16 runs needed from six balls, Chris Sole stepped up, smashing three consecutive boundaries, including a stunning six, to seal the win with just one ball to spare. Sole’s fiery unbeaten 14 off 4 balls was the game-changer.
Opener Lokesh Bam was the star of the chase, crafting a remarkable 71 off 47 balls with six towering sixes. His partnerships with Martin Guptill (28 off 17) and Bashir Ahmed (40 off 23) laid a solid foundation for Biratnagar’s victory. Bashir’s quickfire knock and Guptill’s incredible shots kept the scoreboard ticking. The team stayed in the game despite losing wickets.
Earlier, the Lumbini Lions set a formidable 191/7 in their 20 overs, powered by skipper Rohit Paudel’s 46 off 29 balls and Tom Moores’ 30 off 17. The Lions’ aggressive batting was further boosted by Bivek Yadav’s late blitz, hammering three sixes in just seven balls.
Lumbini’s bowlers, led by Durgesh Gupta with figures of 3/21, put up a commendable fight, but Biratnagar’s grit and determination outshone them. The match also saw Biratnagar kings fielding brilliance with four crucial run-outs.
This victory not only ended Biratnagar’s winless streak but also infused fresh energy into their campaign. The Lumbini Lions, meanwhile, will regroup to bounce back in the league.
