In Gurung language ‘Lho’ means class and ‘Sar’ means changed. Hence, the community welcomes a new animal cycle every year. They bid goodbye to the previous cycle. This year it is from the Garuda cycle to the Snake cycle.
Celebrations include feasts, cultural rallies, and traditional programs. A special event in Kathmandu is being organized at Tundikhul: cultural parade this day.
Gurung settlements in Lamjung, Gorkha, Kaski, and some other districts also celebrate folk dances, sports, and gatherings at the community level.
The festival is celebration of joyousness, togetherness, and honoring Gurung culture. So, Happy Tamu Lhosar!
