Department of Tourism Issues 678 Permits for Climbing 36 Mountains in Nepal, Collecting Over Rs 48.67 Million

The Department of Tourism (DoT) recently gave out 678 permits for climbing 36 mountains in Nepal. They collected more than Rs 48.67 million in fees as of Tuesday. Out of the climbers, 542 are men and 136 are women, representing 55 different countries, including Nepal. Most of the money, over Rs 34 million, came from permits for Mt. Manaslu (8,163m).

The permits break down like this:

  • Mt. Manaslu: 301 permits
  • Himlung Himal: 91 permits
  • Ama Dablam: 81 permits
  • Thorong Peak: 29 permits
  • Barun Tse and Dhaulagiri: 23 permits each
  • Saribung: 15 permits
  • Putha Hiunchuli and Tukuche Peak: 8 permits each
  • Khayang, Ratna Chuli, and Dolma Khang: 6 permits each
  • Cho-Oyu: 5 permits for a Russian team.

68 climbers from China, 58 from France, 49 from the USA, 47 from Japan, 39 from Russia, 38 from Germany, 33 from England, 31 from England, 31 from Australia, 27 from Poland, 24 from Switzerland, and 36 people from Nepal.

Last autumn, the DoT issued permits to 822 climbers from 67 different countries to climb 34 mountains in Nepal. In that same year, 404 permits were issued just for Mt. Manaslu, which brought in Rs 46 million in fees, contributing to a total collection of over Rs 67.12 million.
