Nepal’s Vision for Sports Tourism at the Sports Global Tourism Conference at South Korea

The Sports Global Tourism Conference 2024 is taking place in Seoul, South Korea. The purpose of this one-day conference is to boost and advertise sports tourism activities, focusing on Nepal’s natural beauty and geographical features.

Hansyong University is hosting the conference, which is being organized collaboratively by the Nepali Embassy in South Korea, the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Global NRNA Foundation, Hansyong University, and the MITE Group’s MITE Foundation, established by former ICC members Dr. Shesh Ghale and Jamuna Gurung. The Non-Resident Nepali Association National Coordination Council (NRNA-NCC) of South Korea has played a coordinating role.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, Foreign Minister NP Saud, and Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation State Minister Sushila Serpali Thakuri sent congratulatory messages that were read during the program. Dr. Jyoti Puri, Nepali Ambassador to South Korea, and NRNA ICC Advisor and Nepali Ambassador to the United States of America, AC Sherpa, were also present.

Prime Minister Prachanda expressed his delight at the conference, anticipating significant progress in Nepal’s sports tourism sector. He believes this conference will play a vital role in leveraging sports tourism’s potential for Nepal’s economic and social development, as well as boosting the country’s image as naturally beautiful.

Foreign Minister NP Saud praised Nepal’s progress in various sectors, including sports, culture, and tourism. He hopes that Nepal will also excel in sports tourism, contributing to overall development.

The State Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Sushila Sherpali Thakuri, expressed her happiness at cooperating with stakeholders to promote the potential of sports tourism to boost social, cultural, and economic development.

Krishna Kumari Shrestha, the Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, highlighted the importance of tourism to the Nepalese economy and voiced hope that incorporating the sports sector will increase traveler numbers.

The Non-Resident Nepali Association’s Chief Protector and previous president, Dr. Shesh Ghale, stressed the necessity of appropriate laws and rules to fully realize the potential of sports tourism. Additionally, he noted the value of hiring qualified staff and working with foreign travel agencies.

Vinod Kunwar, Chairman of the Global NRNA Foundation, and other speakers underscored the significance of sports tourism in multidimensional development, including economic, social, and cultural aspects.
