Installing QR Codes to Improve the Cultural and Historical Sites in the Kathmandu Valley

The Kathmandu Valley has many important cultural, historical, and archaeological sites like the Nandikeshwar Temple, Shankar Kirti Mahavihara, and Nakshal Bhagawati Temple. To help visitors learn about these places easily, QR codes have been placed there.

Bharatlal Shrestha, Chairman of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-1, said that most visitors have smartphones. By scanning the QR code, they can learn about the temple’s history, festivals, and customs. There are also four old stone spouts in this area, along with other cultural treasures like Nag Pokhari, Hiti Pokhari, Chaturbhuj Narayan, and Goma Ganesh.

Sarvajnyaraj Poudel, Ward Secretary, mentioned that tourists who visit Thamel and Durbar Marg also explore temples, stone spouts, and Mahaviharas in Ward No. 1. QR codes have been placed on two temples and one Mahavihara to help visitors understand the monuments easily.

The ward will plan further actions based on the response to this promotion. QR codes were placed with technical help from Sarang. Ten languages—Nepali, English, German, Hindi, French, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Japanese, and Arabic—can be utilized with them.
