The inaugural International Mountain Art Festival (IMAF) is taking place in Jomsom, Mustang from October 18 to 24. This festival showcases the beauty and cultural value of mountain villages through various art forms. It gives both local and international artists a forum to present their opinions on mountain environments. Painting, sculpture, photography, cinema, and music are among the featured forms of art.
International musicians taking part include Direk Kingnok and Ekaraj WSP from Thailand, Jampel Cheda from Bhutan, Emmy Go from Indonesia, and Cheng Han-Wen from Taiwan. Even Iwa Kruczkowska from Poland and Stefan Balog from Romania who are further from the country came. Renowned Nepali painters including Shreejan Rajbhandari, Erina Tamrakar, and Hare Ram Joju are also displaying their work.
IMAF seeks to create collaboration among artists, environmentalists, and local people. It is to support mountain preservation and raise awareness of the region’s ecological and cultural significance. The event also aims to promote responsible tourism and celebrate the different cultures of mountain towns.
